"How to incorporate a theme into your
Limited Wedding Budget"

We were recently inspired by "My Fair Wedding with David Tutera" and the intricate details in his creations. It's marvelous how he can take an idea, a concept, and transform it into a life-size fairytale. When you walk into one of his weddings, you feel like you have been transported into a different world of fantasy, joy, and wonder. It undoubtedly leaves you wanting more.

How can you translate that into your budget-limited wedding? How do you take a concept, like an "Eco-Friendly" Wedding, and fit it all of those elements into your budget? And how do you make it look good?

Think of it like making a soup. You can't put too much of one ingredient or that spice will overpower the soup. So you temper the soup with a dash of salt and so forth. It's the basic idea with planning your own wedding. You can incorporate a theme into your Wedding by implementing small details and hints of color into each element, here and there. Not too much...not too little. How do you know where to start or how much is too much? The key is to be creative and put just a little touch into each element of your wedding so it all comes together.

For example, you can start with your Invitations. You can choose an invite with a leaf design and a touch of green. The invitations are the first things your guests will receive and they get a sense of your wedding from your invitations.
A budget-friendly solution is to make your own invitations. It doesn't have to be stressful. You can find DIY Invitations Kits that come with a template, matching envelopes, and response cards; often under $50-$100 for a set of 50! They are so easy to put together and provide a simpler solution to expensive invitations. You can add another personal touch to your invitations by adding a color ribbon or a wax seal with your new last name initial.

We were recently contacted to coordinate a surprise Baby Shower. We found inspiration in the mother-to-be's design for the baby's room. She loves butterflies and ladybugs. So we put together a Ladybug inspired Baby Shower with a pink and red color scheme.

How did we do it?

It all starts with "You're Invited!" These very affordable adorable DIY (do it yourself) invitations featured a photograph of the parents-to-be with the event details printed on the vellum. We selected an array of beautiful flowers in shades of red and pink to accentuate the satin table cloths. Red and pink roses, tulips in pink and red, red spray roses, red carnations, and burgundy mini carnations were delicately grouped together and placed into our vases. Our "Personalized Baby Square Glass Vases" come with an engravable frame. To add a personal touch to each table, we placed a wallet size picture of the baby's ultrasound inside the frame, and personalized with: "Maria's Baby Shower" and the Date. A pair of tealight candles illuminated the centerpieces with a wonderful glow, creating an intimate setting on each table. Sometimes it doesn't fit within your budget to rent table cloths and matching napkins. Some restaurants/venues offer the option to upgrade from their standard table cloths to a different (nicer) color for a small fee. For Favors, we selected "It's about time! - Baby Is Brewing" Teapot Timer favors. We added personalized tags that read: "Maria's Baby Shower - date". Another really great favor that matches this theme, is the Ladybug Magnets (set of 2).

There were game booklets tucked into the cloth napkins on every place setting. These were created to offer an activity for the guests to complete while waiting for the appetizers. We will post the template so you too can create a personalized game booklet for your party.
For this party, we rented silver candle sticks to add height to the tables and complete the design. A local party planner may have similar candle holders you can rent. Another option is to check out local dollar stores, arts and crafts stores, or even places like K-Mart for any candle holders that you can spray paint to compliment your color scheme. Colors like black, white, silver, gold, bronze can accent any color scheme. Play with height. If you have short centerpieces you may want to balance the table out with something taller on each side of the centerpiece. It creates a cohesive look that will blow your guests away and create a very memorable party!

Show Your Love

To get started, think about Valentine's Day and what it means to you. Look for inspiration from your own love story -- if you met on the ski slopes of Vail, incorporate cool blues and other wintry hues. Or take your decor cues from an ultraromantic destination you've been to, like Paris or Venice.

Find Your True Colors

Valentine's Day is synonymous with pink and red. Depending on your style, you can go with this traditional palette or do something unexpected. For the actual cake, a modern heart pattern embossed into white fondant is a great option, or choose a red filling (like red velvet cake or fresh strawberries) so that each slice will have a hint of color.

It's more than likely your first dance will be to a love song. But if you want to keep the mood romantic all night long, ask your guests to fill in their first dance song (or simply the name of their song”) on their RSVP cards. Valentine's Day Themed Weddings

February is the time of year set forth for love, so why not have a Valentine Wedding. Colors of red and pink will set the mood of a valentine romance. The groom and groomsmen can be in black with beautiful red boutonnieres. The bridesmaids could hold a single rose, while the bride can carry a rose cascade.

While roses are associated with Valentines Day, they are expensive at this time of year. You may consider pink flowers for the bridesmaids decorated with little red hearts. Your florist will have suggestions for creative alternatives. Be sure to plan ahead as all florists will be very busy!

When choosing your venue, look for romantic settings. What does romance mean to you; castles and mansions, or cottages and hideaways? A glowing fire and romantic nooks will keep you and your guests warm, while plenty of windows will allow you to view the scenery outdoors. How romantic it would be to have a venue that allows you and your guests to view the setting sun.

     Your ceremony is a reflection of who you are. It can be as simple or as elaborate as you desire. Many people choose to have a traditional ceremony in a church, while others have taken their special day outdoors to a park of the beach. These days, anything goes!

     When selecting your ceremony site, think about who you are as a couple and what makes the two of you unique. Are you very traditional, dreaming of the perfect flowing white gown and walking down a long aisle, carrying a bouquet of beautiful flowers? Or do you long for something unusual, to mark the day as yours? This can be as simple as being married at the museum where you had your first date, or as elaborate as saying your vows after a hike to the summit of a mountain. If you decide on an out of doors location, you may want to consider having a backup spot in case of inclement weather.

     Consider options like writing your own vows, or using a passage from a romantic book or pay to express your love. Incorporate traditions that reflect your heritage, such as the Catholic Unity Candle ceremony or the African American tradition of jumping the broom.

     You will also want to think about who will be officiating you ceremony. If you are having a religious ceremony, is there a particular clergyman who you are close to or who has impacted your life? If you are going to be having a civil ceremony, is anyone in your life licensed to perform weddings? Having someone close to you perform the ceremony that will bind you for life can make your wedding really special.

BABY'S FIRST-AID KIT WHEN TRAVELING

     It is always a good idea to have a first aid kit on hand. This checklist contains everything you will need when traveling with your baby to help you deal with minor problems. If you are unsure about something or have any questions, call your Pediatrician.
     Store all kits in a lunch box, zippered bag, or something like a tackle box and keep them out of reach of curious babies and children. Many items of the first-aid kit can be hazardous.
     The most important items in your kit may be contact information. Securely tape, glue, or staple the following contact information to the inside of your kit:

What is a bridesmaid?

A bridesmaid is first and foremost someone who the bride wants to be a part of her wedding. Perhaps she is a sister, or a very close friend; her friendship and support of the marriage is meaningful. More than that, a bridesmaid and/or maid-of-honor serves a practical purpose. During the hectic time of planning a wedding, she is a confidant, advice giver, doer of menial tasks, errand runner and more. A bride should have at least one bridesmaid (preferably the maid-of-honor) who is reliable, cheerfully helpful, organized, and who lives close to the bride.

A bridesmaid's duties might include:

_ Helping the bride shop for her dress and bridesmaids’ dresses.
_ When asked, giving advice on decorations, favors, music, and more.
_ Helping the maid of honor to plan a bridal shower, and, if appropriate, chipping in for the costs of food, decorations, or venue.
_ Helping to plan a bachelorette party (this the bridesmaids may pay for or split the cost with the other attendees).
_ Helping the bride dress (and stay calm) before the ceremony.
_ Providing moral support at all times.
_ Telling others where the couple is registered and other details, such as when they will return from their honeymoon, where to send gifts, and any name changes.
_ Being useful at the wedding reception. The couple may ask you to help direct guests to the guestbook, assist with a special moment, make sure that vendors have arrived, or do crisis management. You might also want to stick around after the reception and make sure things are cleaned up and wedding presents secured. _ Being social. Be sure to talk to as many guests as you can, making them feel warmly welcomed. If there's a dance floor, help get the party going!
_ Consider throwing (or helping to pitch in for) a day-after brunch. These events are great to help the couple catch up with out-of-town guests, and have a more relaxed environment to socialize in.

*A good bridesmaid also makes sure she is helpful rather than a hindrance. This means being where she needs to be, on time, ordering her bridesmaid dress at the right time, and not badmouthing the bride behind her back.

A Maid of Honor or Matron of Honor has additional duties. She is the person whom the bride most wants to honor and celebrate her friendship. At the wedding ceremony, she has the honor of being the last to walk down the aisle before the bride, and stands next to her during the ceremony. TIP: Organization is key and it will decrease stress levels. Try using a duffel bag or a medium sized tote bag. A small cosmetic bag is ideal for the small emergency items needed for the ceremony/reception, and if you can find one with compartments that's even better. Sometimes you can find these in the pharmacy in the cosmetic section.

The photographs taken at your wedding are the best way to preserve your special day. Chances are you and your fiance will look at the photos many times during your life-time. Therefore, hiring a good photographer is one of the most important tasks in planning your wedding.

Make sure you hire a photographer who specializes in weddings. Your photographer should be experienced in wedding procedures and familiar with your ceremony and reception sites. This will allow him/her to anticipate your next move and be in the proper place at the right time to capture all the special moments.

Look at his/her work. See if the photographer captured the excitement and emotion of the bridal couple. Also, remember that the wedding album should unfold like a story book-- the story of your wedding. Be sure to discuss with your photographer the photos you want so that there is no misunderstanding.

Make sure the photographer you interview is the one who will photograph your wedding. There are many companies with more than one photographer. Often these companies use the work of their best photographer to sell their packages and then send a less experienced photographer to the wedding. Don't get caught in this trap!

TIP: It's worth asking your Music Entertainer if they provide a photographer for the reception because there are some who will go around taking candid shots. For the most part, the photographer is busy all night long taking photographs of the couple and getting those pictures requested. Having an additional, less expensive photographer at the reception is fantastic as they will be focused on taking candid photos of your guests, dancing, etc....capturing all of these special, once in a lifetime moments. It doesn't hurt to ask.
Another option is to have 1 or 2 disposable cameras at each table; with a sticker welcoming your guests take pictures during the night and kindly asking them to leave the camera on the table so that it may be collected at the end of the reception. Your Maid Of Honor, Parents, or a person you've selected will be responsible for picking up the cameras and placing them with the gift cards. This can be done an hour before the reception is scheduled to finish or perhaps at the end of the evening when everyone is packing up to leave.

The following Wedding Planning Checklist is a very complete and detailed list which itemizes everything you need to do or consider when planning your wedding, and the best time frame in which to accomplish each activity.

This checklist assumes that you have nine months or more to plan your wedding. If your wedding is in less than nine months, just start at the beginning of the list and try to catch up as quickly as you can! Use the lines to the left of the items to check off the activities as you accomplish them. This will enable you to see your progress and will help you determine what has been done and what still needs to be done.

NINE MONTHS AND EARLIER_ Announce your engagement.
_ Select a date for your wedding.
_ Hire a professional wedding consultant.
_ Determine the type of wedding you want: location, formality, time of day, number of guests, etc.
_ Determine budget and how expenses will be shared.
_ Develop a record-keeping system for payments made.
_ Consolidate all guests lists: bride's, groom's, bride's family, groom's family, and organize as follows: those who must be invited, those who should be invited, those who would be nice to invite. Decide if you want to include children among guests.
_ Select and reserve ceremony site.
_ Select and reserve your officiant.
